Taylor Swift Wrote “Better Man” For Little Big Town – Was It About Tom Hiddleston?
After Little Big Town revealed that Taylor Swift had provided the lyrics to their song “Better Man,” the question now remains – who did Swift write the song about?
IS TOM HIDDLESTON SUBJECT OF “BETTER MAN”
Swift has always had a reputation for writing songs about her exes, most recently with her song “Style” allegedly about On Direction ex Harry Styles. Her two most recent relationships are the key contenders, with people arguing that the song was either about Calvin Harris or Tom Hiddleston.
A reporter in Nashville errantly tweeted that the song was about neither, and had been penned in 2010, but she later deleted the tweet and apologized for her confusion. Elle also conducted their own investigation, and concluded that the lyrics were not specific to either Harris or Hiddleston.
Karen Fairchild of Little Big Town probably described it best in a Facebook Live press event, saying that the lyrics could match up with a lot of different life situations, and are non-specific to Swift. “Everybody has a better man. It might have been a lover, or a parent that disappointed you,” explained the singer. “I think the beauty of that storytelling is that we can all relate to being disappointed in someone and still loving them, but saying ‘Enough is enough,'” she shared. “This would have been amazing if you would have gotten your act together. That’s kind of a fun song to sing.”
Also during the event, Fairchild thanked Swift for her contribution to their band. “She sent us this song, and it was one that was really special to her,” she told fans. “And she thought of us because of the harmonies, and she’s never pitched a song to anyone before and the moment that we heard it we were like, ‘Man, that is a song that we’re gonna cut.'”
After the big reveal, Swift took to Instagram to show her support for Little Big Town, and her excitement that they chose to sing her song.
