Frasier star Kelsey Grammer reflected on the murder of his sister, Karen Grammer, in his new book, Karen: A Brother Remembers, which features graphic details of her murder.

Grammer was initially hesitant about sharing the brutal crime in the memoir, but eventually decided it was “beneficial” to share the event. “It is ammunition to keep [convicted killer] Freddie Glenn in jail,” he told People, Glenn, who raped and killed Karen in Colorado Springs, Colorado, is currently serving a life sentence.

On June 30, 1975, Karen was approached by three men outside the Red Lobster where she worked while waiting for a co-worker. Glenn and his two accomplices had initially planned to rob the restaurant, but demanded that Karen go with them. They had tied her up and taken her into their car, where she was brought to an apartment and repeatedly assaulted. Karen was eventually driven to an alley where Glenn stabbed her 42 times.

Before dying from her injuries, Karen had reportedly crawled 400 feet from the alley to knock on a nearby trailer door for help. However, the person who answered her cry for help did not attempt to help her but instead called the police and left her to die. Kelsey later reported his sister missing before being the family member who identified her body one week later.

According to Kelsey’s memoir, Glenn had almost decapitated her and punctured her body with “unimaginable brutality.” “The coroner noted that through a gaping wound in her neck,” Kelsey wrote, “he could see into her lung, and there were defensive wounds on her hands.”

Following Karen’s murder, Glenn was sentenced to life in prison in 1975 for her death and several other victims, and his next court hearing is in 2027 after four previous parole denials.
