Ex-GOP Rep. Kay Granger Was Living In Memory Care Facility For Months With Dementia While Still Serving In Congress, Failing To Tell Her Constituents
Rep. Kay Granger (R-Texas) and her son, Brandon Granger, confessed that she had been facing “health challenges.”
In December 2024, Kay was found residing in a dementia care facility. Five months earlier, she disappeared from public view after casting a vote against an amendment to decrease the salary of the Deputy Assistant Administrator for Pesticide Programs to $1. Her sudden absence led to unanswered questions from both her constituents and colleagues.

The mystery was solved when Carlos Turcios, a reporter for the Dallas Express, investigated her whereabouts. Efforts to reach Kay through her office were met with voicemail messages, and her constituency office conveyed no signs of activity.
A tip from a local resident eventually led Turcios to an assisted living facility specializing in memory care, where staff verified the Texas congresswoman had been living for some time.
Granger was allegedly found wandering, lost, and confused in her former Fort Worth neighborhood before she was moved to the care facility. It is unknown why her condition was not disclosed to the public by her relatives or staff, provoking criticism from some Republican leaders.
On December 22, 2024, Kay disclosed in a statement that she was facing health challenges within the previous year.
“As many of my family, friends, and colleagues have known, I have been navigating some unforeseen health challenges over the past year,” she declared in the statement. “However, since early September, my health challenges have progressed, making frequent travel to Washington both difficult and unpredictable. During this time, my incredible staff has remained steadfast, continuing to deliver exceptional constituent services, as they have for the past 27 years.”
She did not disclose her health issues, and her staff did not reply to questions about why they had not already been disclosed to the public.
One of Kay’s spokeswomen denied the Dallas Express report, which mentioned that she lives in a memory care facility. She instead said that she is living in an independent living facility.
On the same day the congresswoman issued her statement, Brandon told The Dallas Morning News that it had “been a hard year.”
He mentioned that he was shocked by how quickly his mother’s health problems have developed.
Additionally, he brought up that his mother has been “having some dementia issues late in the year.”
