After Being ‘Bullied’ By WWE Fans, John Cena Confesses To Getting Hair Transplant
John Cena confessed to undergoing hair replacement surgery only a day after his record-breaking 17th WWE Championship win at WrestleMania 41.
The WWE Champion is playing the “heel” role in his current WWE era, providing a villainous arc for his wrestling persona, which isn’t necessarily a crowd favorite as in the past. The goal of a heel is to elicit reactions from the audience, so portraying a negative figure or even cheating during a match can create significant buzz around the event and the wrestler.
Last year, Cena made headlines at the Oscars, going nude a bit with Jimmy Kimmel.
Even though he secured his latest championship, Cena isn’t seen as a heel. What started as humorous banter about hair among The Pat McAfee Show hosts became more cutting as Cena played into his heel character and expressed his frustration with the public scrutiny of his genetic condition.
“You did something different,” Pat McAfee said, noting that his hair looked good during WrestleMania the night before.
“I did! It’s coming in,” Cena agreed before addressing the live audience. “See? I listen to you, idiots. I do.”
“Now, John, what’s the secret? ‘Cause I could use a little bit of that,” one of the co-hosts said, gesturing to his own head.
The wrestler playfully replied, “You have to take the ones from the side and plant them in at the top. You take the lawn over here and put it on the dry spot.
“There’s another headline for you! Hair transplant!” Cena said, High-fiving McAfee for the PR moment. “There’s no shame in that, man. I got a problem. I try to fix it.”
Cena sarcastically faced the fans again and said, “Thank you for being so aware of my needs and emotions, ’cause you guys ripped me to shreds for a genetic problem that I can’t control.”
He went on to compare the fan’s overwhelming reactions to his bald spot to that of a friend offering outfit critique. “Hey, maybe if you got a good friend, and they tell you, like, ‘Hey, maybe don’t wear that out.’ That’s cool.” He specifically addressed the crowd again and said, “One of you sons of b—- could have pulled me to the side. No, but in unison, you chant, and you make me feel small, and you embarrass me. Like, y’all don’t know what that’s like. That is straight-up bullying. It is.”
“But, yo, it’s coming in. Come on, fuzzies!”
