Former NFL Star Adrian Peterson Arrested For DWI Following Vikings Draft Party
Former NFL star Adrian Peterson was arrested early Friday morning in Minnesota on suspicion of driving while impaired (DWI), just hours after attending a Minnesota Vikings draft party at U.S. Bank Stadium.
Peterson, 40, was pulled over by the Minnesota State Patrol at approximately 3:20 a.m. for allegedly driving 83 mph in a 55-mph zone on southbound Highway 77 near 66th Street in Richfield. A preliminary breath test indicated a blood alcohol content of 0.14%, nearly twice the state’s legal limit of 0.08%.
Peterson was booked into Hennepin County Jail at 5:16 a.m. and released at 7:31 a.m. after posting a $4,000 bond. He faces a fourth-degree misdemeanor DWI charge and is scheduled to appear in court on May 9 in Minneapolis.
The arrest adds to Peterson’s history of legal issues, including a 2014 indictment for reckless or negligent injury to a child and financial troubles leading to multiple lawsuits and asset seizures.
Peterson, who played ten seasons with the Vikings and is the NFL’s fifth all-time leading rusher with 14,918 yards, had been in town for the team’s draft festivities. He last played in the NFL in 2021 and is eligible for the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2027.
