Candace Cameron Bure, known for her role on Full House and her conservative views, has expressed strong disapproval over a controversial segment from the opening ceremony of the Olympics, and the moment in question featured a tableau of drag queens that some viewers perceived as a reinterpretation of Leonardo da Vinci’s iconic painting, The Last Supper.

Bure, whose husband Valeri Bure is a two-time Olympic athlete, took to social media to voice her concerns. In a video shared with her followers, Bure reflected on the Olympic Games significance to her family and expressed her dismay over what she described as a disrespectful portrayal of a Christian symbol.

“The Olympic Games have always brought me so much joy,” Bure said in the video. “It’s the best of the best athletes in the world competing for the title. So to see such a wonderful event marred by an opening ceremony that mocks the Christian faith with its interpretation of The Last Supper was disgusting.”

She went on to explain that her reaction was not only one of anger but also of sadness. “And it made me so sad. Someone told me I should be mad about it; trust me, I am. But I’m more sad because I’m sad for souls.”

The controversial scene in the ceremony showcased drag queens arranged in a way that some viewers believed was reminiscent of da Vinci’s depiction of Jesus’ final meal with his apostles. Bure’s video concluded with a call to her audience to continue spreading their faith, regardless of opposition. “This is my encouragement to you,” she said. “Don’t get tired of doing good. Keep sharing the gospel. And it’s not just for the people that openly mock God.”

In the post’s caption, Bure addressed the backlash she received. Critics argued that the performance at the Paris Olympics was inspired by the Greek god Dionysus and his associated festival rather than The Last Supper. Bure didn’t believe the theme fit the spirit of the Olympics or was appropriate for families. “I still don’t see how that relates to unifying the world through competitive sports and is acceptable for children to watch,” she wrote. “In any case, I’m not buying it.”
