Actor Sean Biggerstaff, best known for his role as Quidditch keeper Oliver Wood in the Harry Potter series, has called out the author of the books, J.K. Rowling, for her views against transgender rights.

Over the years, Rowling has gradually made an increasing number of anti-trans statements, positing it as pro-women rhetoric and earning herself the label of a “TERF” (Trans Exclusionary Radical Feminist). As many public figures – including the three stars of Harry Potter (Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint) – have spoken up to condemn Rowling’s views, Biggerstaff has made a series of posts to Instagram criticizing the writer.

Rowling’s most recent inflammatory comment saw her praise the UK Supreme Court ruling that stated the term “woman” in the 2010 Equality Act exclusively refers to cisgender females. The group that brought the case to court, For Women Scotland, was funded by Rowling.

In an Instagram post following the ruling, Rowling celebrated the verdict with a cigar aboard her $150 million superyacht.

When one internet user referred to the cigar as a blunt, Rowling commented sharply that it was “objectively, provably and demonstratively a cigar.” Biggerstaff then responded via X with the pointed remark, “Bigotry rots the wit.”

Biggerstaff also reposted a tweet that compared Rowling to self-identified misogynist and controversial influencer Andrew Tate, commenting, “lol, huffing on a cigar now? Is she Andrew Tate?”

Rowling, 59, also shared a photo of the For Women Scotland directors celebrating the ruling, with the caption, don’t f— with Scottish women.”

Biggerstaff shot back, “The majority of Scottish women, who don’t agree with these d—heads, aren’t being bankrolled by an obsessive billionaire.”

When an internet user criticized Radcliffe, Watson and Grint for standing up to Rowling, calling them “disloyal bags of s—”, Biggerstaff jumped in to defend his former co-stars, writing, “You don’t have to wonder how they’re doing. You know what they’re doing – leading happy and successful lives, having not driven their families away with their hateful opinions.”

In response to another commenter’s claims that Rowling was being unfairly “cast out” for her opinions, Biggerstaff hit back, “Christ, if that’s what being cast out looks like I’ll take some,” referencing Rowling’s staggering fortune.

Biggerstaff went on to share more posts in support of the transgender community, writing, “Today is just a torrent of people being willfully simple-minded. A performance of pragmatism to cloak their instinctive distaste for the Other.”
