Chris Martin performed at the funeral of Vice President Joe Biden’s son Beau Biden in Wilmington, Del., over the weekend.
Chris Martin Sings At Beau Biden Funeral
Martin, upon learning that Beau was a fan of his band Coldplay, offered to play at the late politician’s funeral Saturday. Playing his acoustic guitar, Martin sang Coldplay’s 2005 song “‘Til Kingdom Come.”
“For you, I’d wait ’till kingdom come / Until my day, my day is done,” Martin sang. “And say, you’ll come and set me free / Just say, you’ll wait, you’ll wait for me.”
During the funeral for Beau, who died after a battle with brain cancer at 46, President Barack Obama delivered a touching eulogy.
“He did in 46 years what most of us could not do in 146. He lived a life where the means were as important as the ends. He made you want to be a better daughter or son or a better brother or sister,” Obama, who fought back tears during the eulogy, said of his vice president and good friend’s son. “And better at your job, a better soldier. He made you want to be a better person… Isn’t that finally the measure of a man, the way he lives, how he treats others no matter what life may throw at him? We do not know how long we’ve got here. We don’t know when fate will intervene. We cannot discern God’s plan.”
Former president Bill Clinton and his wife, former secretary of state and 2016 presidential candidate Hillary Clinton were in attendance at Beau Biden’s funeral as well.
Beau Biden, who was Delaware’s former attorney general, is survived by his wife Hallie and two children.
