Michelle & Barack Obama Seen Together For First Time Since Shutting Down Divorce Rumors
Barack and Michelle Obama made a public appearance together for the first time in 2025 after slamming unfounded rumors of divorce that circulated online.
On April 19, the former president and First Lady were seen in D.C.’s Georgetown area, walking into a private dining room at the restaurant Osteria Mozza.
The couple hasn’t been spotted together since December 2024 when they teamed up to endorse candidate Kamala Harris.
Rumors ran rampant across the internet, despite the fact that the Obamas have continued to make Instagram posts expressing their affection for one another over the last few months. On January 17, Obama posted a photo of them with the caption, “Happy birthday to the love of my life, @MichelleObama. You fill every room with warmth, wisdom, humor, and grace – and you look good doing it. I’m so lucky to be able to take on life’s adventures with you. Love you!”
He posted again on Valentine’s Day with a photo of the two of them and a caption that read, “Thirty-two years together and you still take my breath away.”
Further shutting down gossip about a split, Michelle made a guest appearance on the April 9 episode of the Work in Progress podcast and put a stop to the public’s speculation.
She explained, “That’s the thing that we as women struggle with – disappointing people…I mean, so much so that this year people couldn’t even fathom that I was making a choice for myself. That they had to assume that my husband and I are divorcing.”
Michelle continued, “This couldn’t be a grown woman just making a set of decisions herself, right? But that’s what society does to us. We start actually going, what am I? What am I doing? What am I doing this for?… And if it doesn’t fit into the sort of stereotype of what people think we should do, then it gets labeled as something negative and horrible.”
She declared, “If not now, when? What am I waiting for? How am I going to spend 20 years? Now is the time for me to start asking myself these hard questions of, ‘Who do I truly want to be every day,’ And that changes.”
The Obamas will celebrate their 33rd wedding anniversary in the fall of 2025.
