In an hour-long interview with Dr. Phil in Las Vegas, Donald Trump discussed his belief that he was spared during a recent assassination attempt due to God’s intervention.

He went on to assert that it was God’s will for him to save America and the world.

Trump told his party convention last month that he would only recount the July 13 incident in Butler, Pennsylvania, when a bullet grazed his ear once, it being “too painful to tell” again. As he described it to Dr. Phil, he claimed that “God’s hand” guided him to turn and look at a chart of illegal immigration at just the right moment to save him from more severe injury.

When asked by Dr. Phil about the purpose behind his survival, Trump said, “There had to be some great power. Because you just can’t say – millions to one, millions…I used to say 1 million to 1. It’s much more than that. Because, again, you have to pull down the sign. You have to. It has to be a reason to go right. And I never go right. There’s no reason. And not only go right, it’s for about an eighth of a second. It’s not just right. It’s out of all the time that we’re on this planet. It’s one-eighth of a second, right? So I shouldn’t be with you.”

Trump continued to share his belief that divine intervention during the assassination attempt was part of a larger plan to restore the country. “God loves our country…he thinks we’re going to bring our country back. He wants to bring it back,” Trump said, adding that he feels he has a significant role to play in its future. He criticized the current state of affairs in the U.S. and crime rates, claiming that he could resolve these issues quickly.

Following an extensive conversation about illegal immigration, Trump claimed—without evidence—that the Biden administration had permitted “murderers, drug dealers, and human traffickers” to enter the country “by the hundreds of thousands.” He further suggested that Biden’s rhetoric and insufficient Secret Service protection were to blame for the assassination attempt against him.

Trump also reiterated his unfounded claims about the 2020 election, asserting that he won and warning against the potential for “massive fraud” with mail-in ballots. He mentioned that he reached an agreement with Democratic rival Kamala Harris regarding their impending debate on September 10.
