Stars Of ‘Happy Days’ Reunite For First Time In 50 Years
Actors from the classic series Happy Days assembled over the weekend for an emotional reunion.
On Saturday, stars Henry Winkler, Ron Howard, Anson Williams and Don Most gathered at Steel City Con in Pittsburgh.
His co-stars beside him, Winkler told the crowd, “I’m just emotional here…This is the first time that we have appeared this way in 50 years.”
The sitcom Happy Days followed teenager Richie Cunningham (Howard) along with his friends, Arthur “Fonzie” Fonzarelli (Winkler), Ralph Ralph (Most) and Potsie Weber (Williams). The show ran from 1974 to 1984 and inspired several spin-offs such as Mork & Mindy and Laverne & Shirley.
The crowd applauded Winkler’s sentimentality, and Howard joked, “But it feels like 50 minutes because we’re having so much fun hanging, and this was sort of our great excuse to come together, so thank you.”
Winkler went on to praise the show’s creator Garry Marshall, along with the other former co-stars who died following the series’ conclusion.
Winkler said, “First of all, Garry Marshall was, like, a brilliant creator, a great writer…they chose a wonderful cast – some of them, unfortunately, are no longer with us – but we played together, we stayed together, and we worked hard together. Nobody thought they were better than anybody else.”
“I say that was a huge key,” Howard jumped in. “The show evolved as, really, an ensemble…we were a unit, we were a community, and also, I think for us, it was kind of like our coming of age story. We were just growing up through this process. It was a life experience that’s unlike anything else that I’ve ever known.”
In February, Howard, Williams and Most were present together at a panel discussion at MegaCon Orlando. At the panel, Howard admitted that he “Hadn’t watched an episode [of Happy Days] in a long time,” but recently watched one while waiting for a flight and experienced “The greatest feeling.”
“Because I know why the show was a hit: it was good. And we were good…we were so cohesive as an ensemble unit…we really connected in a great way. And it’s one of the reasons the show has endured,” he explained.
