'Sons of Anarchy' Recap: Clay Turns On The Club; A School Shooting Could Lead Right To SAMCRO
Sons of Anarchy kicked off Season 6 with “Straw,” a packed episode that found Tara (Maggie Siff) and Clay (Ron Perlman) still in jail and ended with a shocking school shooting.
Jax (Charlie Hunnam) is struggling with his role as President of the SAMCRO and head of his family. Being the boss is harder than it looks. August (Billy Brown) wants Jax to hand over Tig (Kim Coates), but doing so would leave SAMCRO one man down and possibly dead, so Jax and August come up with a new deal. Tig will be turned over to August only when Clay is dead.
Meanwhile, in prison, Otto (Kurt Sutter) is getting raped by Lee Toric (Donal Logue) even though he is in solitary confinement. Clay is in protective custody, where police hope he’ll turn on SAMCRO. And Tara meets with her lawyer, Ally Lowen (Robin Weigert). Neither Tara nor her lawyer have any idea what information led to her arrest, but Tara suspects that it was Gemma (Katey Sagal) who turned her in. When Ally tells this suspicion to Jax, he is hesitant to believe that his own mother would do such a thing. Tara won’t let Jax speak to her, though – she doesn’t want him to see her like this.
Jax goes to confront his mother, but Gemma convinces him that she had nothing to do with Tara’s arrest. The two are interrupted by Ima (Kristen Renton), how goes to the guys when Lyla (Winter Ave Zoli) is hurt on the job. Struggling with her finances, Lyla asked Ima for extra work, and ended up severely burned after being forced to take part in torture porn. Gemma took care of Lyla and Ima while Jax and Nero (Jimmy Smits) went to rough up the men responsible.
When the guys get to the porn studio, bullets and punches are exchanged, with one of the men behind the sleezy production escaping from the crew. The other is put in a cage that previously held one of the actresses. Crooked cops catch the boys in the act, but Jax and Nero manage the situation by agreeing to do the cop, Barosky, a favor.
Toric pays a visit to Clay in protective custody: he’s the only man standing between Clay and sure death in gen pop. He knows that Jax framed Clay for Pope’s murder, and he believes that SAMCRO got Otto to kill Toric’s sister. Toric wants one thing: for Clay to turn on SAMCRO. He has before the guard’s shift ends to decide. If he chooses not to turn, it’s off to gen pop. At the last minute, Clay decides to turn, and he is escorted to a private room.
Next, Toric went to Tara and offered her a deal: witness protection for her and her sons in exchange for Jax. Tara has two weeks before she’s put in gen pop, but she knows what she wants to do: no deal. She maintains her innocence and refuses to turn on Jax.
Later, Jax sends Tig to get the porn producer out of the cage and grab his equipment. Unfortunately for the porn producer, he decides to taunt Tig, telling him to watch the video of his daughter being raped. Tig does not take this news well, and drowns the producer on the spot.
Jax is busy meeting with Colette, Barosky’s madame friend, who wants to take her brothel and make it legal. After refusing her services, Lowen meets Jax at the brothel and tells him that Tara doesn’t want him to attend her bail hearing in the morning. Jax decides to take Colette up on her offer, and the two have sex.
Finally, the episode ended with a blond boy who appeared multiple times throughout the Season 6 premiere. This time, he was more than just a background player. “Straw” ended with the boy sitting in front of his school, writing in his notebook, getting up and grabbing a gun and extra bullets before walking right into his school. The shooting begins.
The blond boy is Primo’s (Dave Navarro) son, and the gun he used is one that Jax and SAMCRO gave Nero’s crew in Season 5.
Sons of Anarchy returns next Tuesday at 10 p.m. on FX with “One One Six.”
