The cause of death for Lucy-Bleu Knight, the stepdaughter of guitarist Slash, has been confirmed.

According to a press release from the Los Angeles Medical Examiner’s Office, Knight, who was 25 years old, died from “hydrogen sulfide toxicity,” and her death has been ruled a suicide.

Slash, 59, announced Knight’s death on Instagram on July 21, and stated that she died “peacefully” in Los Angeles on July 19. He did not reveal the cause of death at the time.

He described her as “an incredibly talented artist, a passionate dreamer, and a charming, lovable, sweet soul,” and requested privacy for the family as they grieved and urged that speculation on social media be minimized.

Born on December 6, 1998, Knight was identified in the post as the “beloved daughter of Meegan Hodges and Mark Knight, stepdaughter of Samantha Somers Knight and Slash, and sister of Scarlet Knight, as well as stepsister to London and Cash Hudson.”

On July 28, Slash shared another emotional tribute to his late stepdaughter, expressing his profound sorrow. “My heart is permanently fractured,” he wrote alongside a photo of Knight. “I will never ever stop missing you & remembering what a beacon of happiness, laughter, creativity & beauty you have always been—and still are.”

Two days after Knight’s death, a scheduled post appeared on her Instagram account, that featured a selfie and a reflection on her relationships with those she cherished.

Slash concluded with a heartfelt message: “You were the brightest light in the lives of so many who loved you dearly. I find solace in the hope that you are at peace now. I will love you eternally.”

Hydrogen sulfide is a highly toxic, colorless gas. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) states that exposure to high concentrations can lead to “rapid unconsciousness and death.”
