Jonathan Nichols got a new cell phone when he moved to Seattle a few years ago – and somehow ended up with Sir Mix-A-Lot’s old phone number.

Sir Mix-A-Lot’s Phone Number

Not long after Nichols got his new phone, he started to receive text messages that clearly weren’t meant for him, reported the Seattle Times. The first message was a link to a YouTube video of a guy making beating using a synthesizer. Calls from local luxury car dealerships and picture messages of bikini clad women were to follow.

To the car salesmen, he’d reply, “I’d love to, but I think you have the wrong guy. I’m a broke law student.” As for the women, he told those sending numerous snaps, “You need to stop.”

Nichols didn’t know exactly who the previous owner of the phone number was until Aug. 12 came around, when he was flooded with “Happy Birthday” messages. Among the birthday texts was one that referenced Sir Mix-A-Lot’s best known song, “Baby Got Back.” After doing some Googling, Nichols realized that Anthony Ray aka Sir Mix-A-Lot has an Aug. 12 birthday, and was likely the man everyone was trying to reach.

“Are you serious? That is hilarious. Poor fella,” Sir Mix-A-Lot said when he was told about Nichols’ comical situation.

His advice for Nichols? “Don’t check any text messages in front of your wife. That would be the first thing. And don’t answer any texts [from car dealerships] by saying ‘Yes,’ because people take ‘Yes’ differently with me. And usually you end up opening your wallet.”

“Tell him any really sexy pictures — little in the middle, and if she’s got much back — give them the new number,” Mix added. “But not the car dealerships.”
