SAG Awards 2023 Winners: ‘Everything Everywhere All At Once’ Dominates Night
The multiverse film Everything Everywhere All At Once won best cast, best actress, best-supporting actor and best supporting actress at the 29th Annual SAG Awards on Sunday.
The film’s record-breaking four actors included victories for Michelle Yeoh, Jamie Lee Curtis and Ke Huy Quan, who became the first Asian actor to win in the Supporting Actor category.
James Hong, who plays lead actress Yeoh’s father in the movie, gave a speech for their best motion picture cast win.
The 94-year-old actor said that his first film was made 70 years ago. “Back in those days, [Asian roles] were played by [white] guys with their eyes taped because producers said that Asians were not good enough and they were not ‘box office,'” Hong stated. “But look at us now!”
Brendan Fraser earned the Best Actor trophy for his leading role in The Whale.
For TV, The White Lotus continued to dominate the awards shows with wins in Best Drama Series Ensemble and Best Female Actor in a Drama Series (Jennifer Coolidge).
The SAG Awards are often considered a good indicator of the Oscars – they perfectly predicted the Oscar winners last year for all four acting categories.
However, this is the first year since 1998 that the four acting winners at the SAG Awards and last week’s BAFTAs were all different, creating uncertainty leading up to next month’s Oscars.
