Australian golfer Robert Allenby was kidnapped from a Hawaii bar over the weekend and was subsequently beaten and robbed before he was left at a nearby park.
Robert Allenby Abducted
On Friday night, Allenby was at Waikiki Beach’s Amuse Wine Bar with his caddie and a friend from Australia after missing the cut in the Sony Open. At one point, he became separated from the two other men and the next thing he knew he was in a park.
“He went to the bathroom and next thing you know I’m being dumped in a park miles away,” Allenby told the UK Guardian, speaking of his friend. “I only know this part because a homeless woman found me and told me she saw a few guys pull up and throw me out of the car. That is where I got the scrapes above my eye from the sidewalk.”
“The homeless woman got me away from the others and then a retired military guy walking past came to my aid,” Allenby added. “He got me into a taxi and paid for me to get to my hotel and I called police from there. I have his details and will be getting back in touch with him for sure.”
Allenby has speculated that he may have been drugged at the bar before he was beaten and thrown into the truck of a car. His abductors allegedly stole all of his cash and credit cards and drove him to a park roughly six miles away.
Honolulu police are investigating the incident as a second-degree robbery, according to local TV station KHON2.
