Prince Harry’s Visa Records Released After Admitting To Drug Use In Memoir

Prince Harry’s visa records for admission to the US have been released after he admitted to using drugs during his teenage years.

The redacted version of the prince’s immigration records was released in response to a Freedom of Information Act request from the Heritage Foundation, a conservative group. However, the records do not make clear what Harry said in the drug use section of the application.

The record was requested in May 2023 after the prince was questioned about his motives for moving to the US. An excerpt in his memoir, Spare, revealed interesting details about his past.

In his memoir, the Duke of Sussex confessed to trying cocaine, smoking marijuana and dabbling in psychedelic mushrooms during his teenage years. Several conservative groups argued that Harry, 40, should have disclosed prior drug use while applying for a visa.

A candidate’s history with drugs plays a vital role in the US government’s decision to permit new and traveling individuals to enter the country. According to the US Citizenship and Immigration Services manual, applicants who are found to be drug abusers or addicts are inadmissible.

Heritage Foundation lawyer Samuel Dewey told the New York Post that the paperwork still shows a picture of Harry’s immigration process. If Harry had disclosed his past drug use, he would need to file a separate form sent to the Department of Homeland Security. If Harry did not divulge the information, Homeland Security would not get involved, leaving his visa status unclear.

Harry told Good Morning America in 2024 that he had “considered” applying to become a full-time citizen. One major factor that could determine his decision was the US’s requirement to give up royal titles.

Harry has not publicly acknowledged the unsealed documents or elaborated any plans for his US citizenship.
