Prince Harry wants to bury the hatchet with his father, King Charles.

On May 2, following a judge’s dismissal of Harry’s appeal regarding his reduced security in the U.K., Harry spoke to BBC News, stating, “I would love reconciliation with my family. There’s no point in continuing to fight anymore.”

Following Charles’ cancer diagnosis, the King and Harry met in February 2024, for what was reported to be a positive interaction. However, soon after, Charles stopped responding to Harry’s attempts to contact him. An insider close to Harry said last year, “[Harry’s] calls go unanswered. He has tried to reach out about the King’s health, but those calls for unanswered, too.”

Harry and his family have been on rocky terms ever since Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle, left royal life in 2020 and moved to California. Since he stepped back as a working family member, the Duke of Sussex’s allocated security was eliminated, much to Harry’s chagrin. Harry flew to London for a two-day appeal hearing, arguing that he and his family still deserved the high-level protection previously awarded to them as royals. He requested his security be reinstated when he visited the U.K.

Judge Geoffrey Vos dismissed the appeal on May 2, stating, “Even if there had been a risk analysis from the Risk Management Board, it would very likely have only confirmed the threat, vulnerability and impact levels which the Duke of Sussex had faced when earlier risk analyses were undertaken… But it would have had nothing to say on the critical features of the changed situation, namely the need for protective security on future uncertain visits and the government’s appetite for risk.”

After his appeal was dismissed, Harry said in a statement, “Worst fears have been confirmed by the whole legal disclosure in this case – and that’s sad…this one has always mattered most.”

In an official statement regarding the judge’s decision, Harry said that he would be “writing to the Home Secretary to ask her to urgently examine the matter and review the government’s Royal and VIP Executive Committee’s (RAVEC) decision.

In his interview with the BBC, Harry continued, “Life is precious. I don’t know how much longer my father has…he won’t speak to me because of this security stuff, but it would be nice to reconcile.”

Charles, 76, was diagnosed with cancer last year.

Harry added, regarding his security case, “There is a lot of control and ability in my father’s hands…ultimately, this whole thing would be resolved through him. Not necessarily by intervening, but by stepping aside, allowing the experts to do what is necessary.”

However, the palace has made numerous statements denying Charles the power to override the ruling on Harry’s security.

In addition to his departure from royal life, Harry further alienated himself from the palace with the 2023 release of his memoir Spare, in which he revealed intimate details about the family.

Harry declared in the BBC interview that he has no intentions of bringing Markle or his children to the U.K. until his security is reinstated.
