Bill Gates has announced an ambitious plan to donate nearly all of his estimated $200 billion fortune over the next 20 years through the Gates Foundation, with the organization set to close by December 31, 2045.

The decision accelerates his longstanding commitment to philanthropy, aiming to address pressing global challenges such as poverty, disease and malnutrition.

In a recent blog post, Gates emphasized the urgency of this initiative, stating, “I will give away virtually all my wealth through the Gates Foundation over the next 20 years to the cause of saving and improving lives around the world.” The foundation, co-founded with his ex-wife Melinda French Gates in 2000, has already disbursed over $100 billion to various global health and development programs.

This week, Gates accused Elon Musk of “killing the world’s poorest children” by working to dismantle USAID.

Gates’ decision comes in response to declining global humanitarian funding and recent cuts to international aid programs. He has been particularly vocal about the potential consequences of these reductions, warning that they could lead to millions of preventable deaths.

Despite the magnitude of his planned donations, Gates will retain some of his wealth to support ongoing initiatives and investments in areas like clean energy and education. He hopes his actions will inspire other billionaires to increase their philanthropic efforts, stating, “I hope this sets an example for others with great wealth to step up and give back.”
