Gleeks were in for a treat Tuesday night with the return to Glee of Broadway star Kristin Chenoweth as the lovable drunk April Rhodes. In the episode, “Rumors,” New Directions paid tribute to Fleetwood Mac, as Chenoweth, 42, sang their song “Dreams” with Matthew Morrison, who plays Will Schuester.

The episode showed Rhodes coming back from Broadway after her all-white version of The Wiz bombed. She asked Schuester to help her back on the road to Broadway with a musical about her life: CrossRhodes: The April Rhodes Story. Schuester’s wife Teri and Sue (Jane Lynch) attempt to use Rhodes’ plea to get Schuester to leave New Directions, knowing that he longs for a larger stage than McKinley High school’s auditorium. Schuester cries as he tries to make a decision, but ultimately says he can’t leave the New Directions before Nationals (let’s face it, we saw that one coming).

Chenoweth is best known on Broadway for her performance as Sally Brown in You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown (1999), for which she won a Tony Award. As Olive Snook on the ABC comedy-drama Pushing Daisies, she won a 2009 Emmy Award. She most recently appeared on Broadway in Promises, Promises opposite Sean Hayes.

In the short time since Glee began, it has won two Platinum and two Gold albums, two Grammy Award nominations, four Emmy Awards and three Golden Globes, including the award for Best Television Series Comedy or Musical.
