The daughter of former Today Show host Matt Lauer was involved in a traffic incident over the Fourth of July weekend in the Hamptons, according to local law enforcement officials.

Romy Lauer, 20, reportedly lost control of her Jeep Wrangler in the early hours of July 5, striking a fence and a sign on North Sea Mecox Road in Southampton. The college student allegedly left the scene before authorities arrived, but her vehicle’s license plate was found at the site of the collision.

Southampton Town police were alerted to the incident around 4 a.m. by a resident who heard a loud noise and called 911, fearing someone might be injured. Upon arrival, officers found property damage but no vehicle or driver present.

Authorities have confirmed that Romy has been issued a summons for leaving the scene of an accident. The young woman is the daughter of Matt Lauer, the former host of NBC’s Today show, and his ex-wife, model Annette Roque.

In 2020, NBC fired Matt after he was accused of raping a subordinate.

Legal representation for Romy has reportedly been secured – prominent local attorney Edward Burke Jr. is handling the case. Burke, known for representing high-profile clients including Justin Timberlake in his drunk driving arrest, is said to be working toward a resolution with the court.

The incident occurred during a busy holiday weekend in the upscale Long Island community, which is a popular summer destination for wealthy New York City residents and visitors.

While details of any potential injuries or the extent of property damage remain unclear, the case has drawn attention due to the Lauer family’s local prominence and Matt Lauer’s former status as a national media figure.
