Ex UFC Champion Cain Valesquez Arrested For Attempted Murder After Bay Area Shooting
Former UFC icon Cain Velasquez has been arrested over his alleged involvement in a shooting on Monday in Morgan Hill, California.
The incident occurred near the intersection of Monterey Highway and Bailey Avenue, where one man was shot. He was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The circumstance and Velasquez’s alleged motive are still under investigation, according to the San Jose Police Department.
The ex-champion was arrested on a charge of attempted murder and is now being held at the Santa Clara County Department of Corrections without bail.
Velasquez, 39, was a two-time UFC heavyweight champion. Though he is not officially retired, he hasn’t fought since February 2019, when he was knocked out in 26 seconds by current heavyweight champion Frances Ngannou.
The fighter was booked into the Santa Clara County Jail and is set for a court appearance on Wednesday.
