Patrisha McLean, wife of folk singer Don McLean, was granted a two-year extension to her protection-from-abuse order against him.

PATRISHA MCLEAN GRANTED RESTRAINING ORDER EXTENSION

Patrisha originally obtained the order following an Don’s assault on her last year. The singer pleaded guilty to domestic violence assault, domestic violence criminal threatening and criminal restraint, and criminal mischief charges in Jan. 2016. That incident occurred in the nighttime hours between July 17 and 18, 2016.

Patrisha called for an extension on the order, which would have expired in July had she not made the move. “Today is a happy day for me,” Patrisha said after her request was granted. “Thirty years [of marriage] was enough.”

Though the pair is now divorced, Patrisha felt it necessary to extend the order, given her ex-husband’s disparaging comments he’s made about her online. “I did divorce him. I need him to leave me alone,” she said. “Now I know with this [order] I have some measure of safety… I’d like to not have contact with him for the rest of my life.”

Don’s lawyer Eric Morse said he is doing better and is “sad about this chapter in his life. He’s really moved on.”
