‘Brady Bunch’ Star Susan Olsen Says Reboot Was Shelved Due To Her Right-Wing Views, Was Forced To Take ‘Political Correctness’ Course
Susan Olsen, better known to America as “The Youngest One in Curls,” or Cindy from the beloved sitcom The Brady Bunch, revealed that a potential revival of the beloved television show was called off due to her controversial political views.
The sitcom aired in color from 1969 to 1974.
Olsen, 63, shared in an episode of the Walk Away Campaign podcast that the revival would have seen the Brady siblings functioning as adults in the modern world, with Cindy a libertarian podcaster.
Olsen has a long history of controversial political opinions regarding vaccines and particularly on topics of the LGBTQ community. In 2016, Olsen was fired from the radio show Two Chicks Talkin’ Politics after she went on a homophobic rant and gay actor Leon Acord-Whiting forward shared a series of offensive messages she had sent him.
The L.A. Talk Radio released a statement at the time that read, “We will not tolerate hateful speech by anyone associated with our radio station and have severed our ties with a host that veered off the direction in which we are going.”
On the Walk Away Campaign podcast, Olsen said that she had agreed to take a course in “political correctness” so she could participate in the reboot, but CBS allegedly compiled “50 pages” of “dangerous” statements of hers, which conclusively determined that she would not be allowed to be part of the show.
Olsen noted that she had hoped to use the reboot as a platform to make some controversial statements. “Those 50 pages were like my greatest hits,” she noted. “I stand by everything I said – I don’t just say things.”
She said, “I did have a phone call with my [TV] siblings and my agent…everybody was saying, ‘We’re sorry, but they just won’t budge. They just will not have you in this.’ I’m like, Wow I’ve been cancelled. A role that I’ve played for over 50 years, I can’t play it now…I was like, ‘Well, okay guys, good luck, I hope you can sell it.’”
Although her agent felt there might be a way to “circumvent” CBS’ efforts to keep her out of the project, Olsen supposedly nixed the effort. “At this point, you’re going to have a woke Brady Bunch, and I want no part of it.”
Olsen shared that the revival had planned to address modern-age topics of conversation, with Jan having a trans child, and one of the siblings having an interracial marriage.
Olsen said, “To that I was like, come on, let’s not be so obvious. Let’s make this black spouse somebody who has a really close relationship with another Brady, and that’s how this Brady met them. Give them a foundation so this isn’t a token position.”
Olsen revealed that the Brady Bunch revival series is “dead in the water” now.
