‘Zack Snyder’s Justice League’ Receives Positive Reviews
The status of Zack Snyder’s cut of Justice League has been a very popular topic in DC Comics-related media since 2017 after the theatrical cut that was directed by Joss Whedon received negative reception and bombed at the box office. Following its release on the streaming service HBO Max on March 18, Zack Snyder’s Justice League received positive reviews from both fans and critics alike, who considered it to be a massive improvement over the original film, in terms of the story, humor, action, CGI and performances from several actors, particularly Ezra Miller as Barry Allen/The Flash and Ben Affleck as Bruce Wayne/Batman.
Zack Snyder’s Justice League expands the length of the original film from two hours to four hours, showcasing several scenes that had not been seen before, a darker tone and the introduction of characters who had not been seen before including Iris West (Kiersey Clemons), Darkseid (Ray Porter), Martian Manhunter (Harry Lennix) and the Joker (Jared Leto). The climax of the film was also entirely different, with several different scenes given to the characters during their fight against the main villain Steppenwolf (Ciarán Hinds). One character who greatly benefited from the Snyder cut was Victor Stone/Cyborg (Ray Fisher), who had one of the biggest roles in the entire film and was practically demoted to a minor character in Whedon’s cut of Justice League. Fisher later claimed that Whedon verbally abused him on set.
Despite the positive reception to Zack Snyder’s Justice League, it remains to be seen if Affleck, Fisher and Henry Cavill will ever return to the DC Extended Universe as their characters following each of their decision to step down from the role. Following the success of the Snyder cut, several fans have gone on social media to try and advocate for a sequel to be made under Snyder’s direction, using the phrase #RestoreTheSnyderVerse. However, Snyder has confirmed that this will be his last movie attached to the DC Extended Universe.
