Chris Pine Expresses Interest In A ‘Star Trek’ Movie Directed By Quentin Tarantino
Chris Pine was asked in a recent interview if he had heard about director Quentin Tarantino’s possible plans to direct a Star Trek movie. The actor revealed that if the opportunity ever came up, he would very much like to star in it. Pine has already had experience in a Star Trek project, as he portrayed the iconic character Captain James T. Kirk in the franchise’s reboot in 2009, 2013 and 2016. Pine has not been informed if anymore Star Trek films were in development, as 2016’s Star Trek Beyond was a financial flop. However, with Tarantino’s rumored project, Pine is excited at the possibility of returning to the franchise.
Best known for directing films such as Pulp Fiction, Kill Bill, Inglorious Basterds, Django Unchained and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, Tarantino has often been praised for his storytelling abilities. While his Star Trek project has only been a rumor, there is no doubt that he would be able to competently direct a film that was set in that particular universe. However, there are some drawbacks to a possible Star Trek movie directed by Tarantino. The first problem is that all of the director’s previous films have had a hard R-rating, with little to no family friendly elements. The second issue with a Tarantino Star Trek movie is that all of his films are mainly original stories, making it hard for Pine to make his return as Captain Kirk believable if his film is not set in the same universe as the previous three Star Trek movies. Finally, Tarantino has made it clear that he only plans to direct ten films within his career. With Tarantino stating that his next film will be his last, it seems hard to believe that his final film will not be an original project and instead be a sequel to a film from an already existing franchise.
