According to the New Jersey Department of Health, concertgoers at a recent Shakira concert held in MetLife Stadium may have been exposed to measles. This comes after the recent discovery that a fan from outside the state attended the concert while infected with the disease on May 15.

According to health officials, although there have not been other reports of infected attendees, there is still a chance that anyone who contracted measles while at the concert may not even experience symptoms until June 6. Those in attendance are encouraged to check the status of their measles, mumps and rubella vaccinations to gauge the number of people who may have been infected.

This recent discovery is particularly concerning as the disease can linger in the air for up to two hours after an infected person has left a space. In addition, according to officials, measles can lead to pneumonia and serious complications for pregnant individuals, including miscarriage.

In September 2024, Shakaria walked off-stage after a fan tried to record a video with his phone pointed up her dress.

Tens of thousands of people were reported to have attended the concert, leading to a high risk of the number of measles cases nationwide increasing drastically. Those who feel they are at risk are advised to visit health professionals and look for the disease’s initial symptoms.

Shakira’s tour will continue until June 30.
