Jordan Peele Is Taking On The Lorena Bobbitt Scandal In Amazon Docuseries
Get Out director Jordan Peele will be turning the 1990s scandal of Lorena Bobbitt into an Amazon Prime docuseries.
The streaming company announced that they will be taking on the story in a four-part series, Lorena. It will explore the notorious story of John Wayne Bobbitt and Lorena Bobbitt. Bobbitt became a household name in 1993 after severing her then-husband’s penis with a kitchen knife and throwing it into a field in retaliation for alleged domestic abuse.

However, this time they are re-examining the case for the #MeToo era. Lorena will give a fresh and new perspective to what happened over two decades ago. “Lost in the tabloid coverage and jokes was the opportunity for a national discussion on domestic and sexual assault in America,” read an Amazon release.
“When we hear the name ‘Bobbitt,’ we think of one of the most sensational incidents to ever be catapulted into a full-blown media spectacle,” Peele told The Hollywood Reporter. “With this project, Lorena has a platform to tell her truth as well as engage in a critical conversation about gender dynamics, abuse and her demand for justice. This is Lorena’s story, and we’re honored to help her tell it.”

Amazon is pleased to have Peele on board to direct the mini-series. Heather Schuster, head of Amazon Originals, explained Peele’s original take is perfect for the series. “Jordan has proven himself as a captivating voice of social critique, and we are excited to work with him on this project,” Schuster told The Hollywood Reporter. “Lorena reframes Lorena Bobbitt’s story around issues of sexism and domestic abuse and offers Prime members an exclusive new view into how America got her story wrong and maybe continues to get it wrong.”
No premiere date has been released for Lorena.
