The Wire actor Tray Chaney says his son, Malachi, is doing better after being seriously injured by a tornado that hit their Georgia home on May 29.

He revealed that his son’s condition has improved, and he is now out of the intensive care unit (ICU). “After spending six days in the ICU… he’s now moved into a regular room. Malachi is stable,” Chaney told TMZ.

Chaney’s son suffered many injuries from the incident. Chaney said his son had “broken ribs,” “cuts all over his upper body,” and had “every bone in his face fractured.” When the tornado hit Chaney’s home, his son had been in his bedroom when he was “thrown 300 feet” and later found “in the woods,” according to Chaney’s Instagram post. Malachi was knocked unconscious by the storm and woke up on the ground sometime afterward.

Chaney shared that he was in bed when the tornado struck and recalled hearing a sound like a “train was coming” toward them, before his family was hit. The next thing Chaney remembered was waking up in the mud with parts of his home scattered around and on top of him. He was able to find his phone in working condition, but everything else in his home was gone.

For now, Chaney said that he and his family are moving one step at a time. “It’s only six days,” he said. “Me, my wife Ayesha, and my son Malachi, got a long – we’ve got a lifetime to go because I don’t what’s coming, and I’m not trying to figure it out. We went through war with a tornado, you know? The tough part is watching [Malachi] be stable and respond the best way he can. And every single day, he doesn’t know what happened.”
