Disgraced actor Kevin Spacey has been cast in the upcoming conspiracy thriller, The Awakening, after having faced career-threatening sexual assault charges over recent years.

Just last year, Spacey was accused of sexually assaulting former actor Ruari Cannon in June 2013, according to a testimony by Cannon the night before the premiere of Spacey’s documentary, Spacey Unmasked. Cannon claimed that their interaction at The Savoy Hotel was normal until Spacey reached into Cannon’s pants without consent and touched his buttocks.

This is one of many accusations made against the Usual Suspects star. More individuals have claimed that they were touched inappropriately by Spacey when they were teenagers, including a castmate on House of Cards. In total, Spacey has been accused of nine separate sexual assault charges.

Spacey appeared in court in July 2023 and was acquitted of all charges. The actor has denied these allegations publicly. He accused Britain’s Channel 4 of spreading false accusations without substantial evidence. He has also made a consistent effort to revive his career, including giving a speech about cancel culture at Oxford University in 2023.

In The Awakening, Spacey will star alongside Justin Tinto and Alice Eve. The narrative follows two people as they attempt to expose a powerful conspiracy that is determined to take over the world. The film is directed by Matt Routledge, with a screenplay co-written by Routledge, Tinto and Matt Hookings.

In an interview with Variety, producer Tim Kent expressed his excitement about the upcoming release of the thriller film. He stated, “Filming our conspiracy thriller at the iconic Pinewood Studios added a unique layer of intrigue to the project. The studio’s rich history of filmmaking, combined with our gripping narrative, has resulted in a film that we believe will resonate with audiences seeking thought-provoking and thrilling entertainment.”

Cloud9 Studios has presented the film to numerous buyers at Cannes this past week and is set to make $7 million at the box office upon its release.
