DJI Spark Review: A Smart Drone

Drones are versatile. They are utilized in the military and by Amazon as tools to enhance their productivity, for example. But, more importantly, drones can be used to help you create out-of-this-world selfies. This practice began in 2015, and a market has since been born that caters to this niche. DJI’s Spark offers a capable machine with a comparatively inexpensive price for those who wish to try this hobby.

“Dronies” has become the accepted term to refer to selfies taken by drones, and the Spark will serve you well if you’re casually interested in taking them. DJI’s most recent innovation inherited the Intelligent Flight Modes from their prior Mavic Pro drone. Plus, a smartphone app, DJI Go 4, functions if you connect your iPhone or Android to Spark’s Wi-Fi signal.

While the exact resolution varies depending on your settings, Spark will faithfully capture pictures and video for you. However, the full extent of Spark’s flight time is at 16 minutes, assuming you’re flying at the maximum speed of 12.4 mph. This short battery life is certainly disappointing. Additionally, Spark isn’t water proof, so it’s recommended to avoid flying it when it’s raining.

One thing to bear in mind, however, is how the base package consists of the drone, spare propellers, a charger, a micro USB cable, a rechargeable Intelligent Flight Battery and a case for storing your airborne companion. The pricier “Spark Fly More Combo” set adds some extra components into the mix as well as an hour of flight training.

While it’s fairly pricey, this is a perfect comrade if you’re interested in taking airborne selfies. Five bright colorations are available: Alpine White, Sky Blue, Meadow Green, Lava Red and Sunrise Yellow.
