Remy Ma Suffers Miscarriage, Posts Stirring Video And Message

This Monday’s episode of Love and Hip-Hop New York proved to be an emotionally harrowing one. Viewers learned that Remy Ma, who had been pregnant with her husband Papoose, suffered a miscarriage due to an ectopic pregnancy. Following the miscarriage, Ma posted a heartbreaking video on Instagram revealing her thoughts from the hospital bed.

Ma Had An Ectopic Pregnancy

In a normal pregnancy, a fertilized egg travels through the fallopian tube and implants in the uterus. But if the egg’s movement is blocked or slowed down, which can happen if there’s scar tissue from a previous surgery, the egg will attach to tissue outside of the uterus, resulting in an ectopic pregnancy.

Since a fertilized egg can’t survive outside the uterus, the tissue has to be removed, using either medication or surgery.

For Ma, the course of action had to be surgical removal of the fetus. As if that procedure wasn’t traumatic enough, Ma was given more disheartening news.

“The doctor also told me that I can’t have any more pregnancies naturally,” said an emotional Ma from her hospital bed, with tubes still attached.

She goes on to lament all the motherly duties she had been anticipating, such as buying a pregnancy journal and going baby-product shopping. With all the plans of a new addition to her family, Ma admits the miscarriage came as a major shock.

“I never for one second thought that it would end like this,” she said in the video. “With me in the hospital. With stitches in my stomach and no baby.”

Ma, a Grammy-nominated American rapper, had recently married her husband, rapper Papoose, at the end of 2015.

In her Instagram video, Ma made sure to give thanks to Papoose for remaining by her side through the ordeal. She also showed gratitude to those who shared their condolences, and to the hospital staff that watched over her during her stay at the hospital.

“First, thank you to everyone that sent their congrats as well as condolences,” Remy wrote. “This was a hard time for me & my husband & we thought long and hard before deciding to share this part of our lives with you all. I was totally against it, but in a fit of crying [Papoose] said, ‘you are not the only one going through this. We will get through it.’ Made me realize how many women like myself experience the same thing and don’t have a strong partner by their side to say it will be alright.”

She gave special thanks to Dr. Razman, the doctor who performed the surgical removal of the fetus. She also shared that she had plans for in-vitro fertilization in the future.

“And to Dr. Razmzan, who came to perform my surgery at 5 a.m., who tried his best to leave me scarless and succeeded, who eased any fears I had — thank you, and don’t retire yet because once we find the right in-vitro doctor, you have to deliver my babies.”
