Prince William Is ‘Pretty Demanding,’ Royal Aide Says
Prince William’s demeanor leading the Duchy of Cornwall has been described as excessively “demanding.”
Following his father, King Charles’ ascension to the throne in 2022, Prince William inherited the Duchy of Cornwall. This estate spans over 20 counties in England and Wales. It is worth over $1 billion, which provides an income for the heir. Established by King Edward in 1337, the Duchy of Cornwall presently spans 130,000 acres of land, farms, houses, and more.
Prince William has been making secret visits to various parts of the Duchy for the last two and a half years.
The UK newspaper The Telegraph recently tagged along on one of his trips.
The outlet reported, “The Prince tries to visit part of the Duchy once every four to six weeks, working his way through its farms and offices to meet families and staff, shake hands and quiz them on what he can do to help. His visits are usually private, rarely making the Court Circular and kept quiet by loyal locals who are used to royal comings and goings.”
Will Bax, the Duchy’s secretary, described Prince William as “pretty demanding” in both a “great” and “ambitious” way.
He explained to The Telegraph, “He’s easy to follow because he’s got great conviction and personality, and he really wears his heart on his sleeve in terms of social interest and his desire to have a positive impact in the world.”
Estate director Ben Murphy shared that Prince William has a “healthy impatience, as his father did,” and emphasized it “puts the wind in our sails; he really cares.”
Prince William told The Telegraph, “I see the Duchy as an extension of the work we do with the Royal Foundation. I see it as a branch of my philanthropy. There’s so much good we can do in the rural world. I see [the Duchy] as another arm to the work that I want to do, which is being a positive force for good.”
Prince William is particularly concerned with improving the mental health of farmers, who often face isolation and sustainability challenges, and partnering with local organizations to address the homelessness issue. Max referred to Prince William as “a man on a mission,” saying, “He’s asking us to change and evolve in a way to deliver positive impact at scale and at pace.”
