Rihanna will be honored with the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award at the MTV Video Music Awards later this month.

RIHANNA TO BE HONORED WITH LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD

The renowned lifetime achievement award was renamed in 1991 for the late Michael Jackson and his unmatched influence on the music and music video industries. Just this year Rihanna beat Michael Jackson’s chart record of most number one songs.

Rihanna, who released her first album in 2005, will receive the esteemed award along with such famed artists as David Bowie, U2, Beyonce, and, most recently, Kanye West.

Rihanna has never shied away from making controversial music videos, such as her 2015 video for her song “B***h Better Have My Money,” which some declared advocated violence. Her daring is what earned her two VMA Moon Men for Video of the Year in the past for 2007’s “Umbrella” and 2011’s “We Found Love.”

The 28-year-old singer will accept her achievement award and perform a new single. The VMAs will air Sunday, August 18, at 9 p.m. ET.

Check out Rihanna’s most recent music video below for her song “Sledgehammer,” made for the film Star Trek Beyond.
