Kim Kardashian Explains Wearing $7M Worth Of Diamonds While Testifying In Her Paris Robbery Case: ‘This Is My Closure’
Kim Kardashian arrived at the Palais de Justice court in Paris, where she testified at the trial of those suspected of being involved in her 2016 robbery.
The group of ten men, known as the “Grandpa robbers” according to French media, tied her up, held her at gunpoint, and then stole approximately $10 million of jewelry from her hotel room.
Kardashian was decked out in diamonds for the court date, sporting a $7 million necklace to testify in, among other flashy jewelry like a diamond ear cuff, but the piece of most interest was the massive new ring she wore.
It is reported that she purchased the new ring with the insurance money she received following the robbery. The Lorraine Schwartz ring is a staggering 22 carats — even larger than the 20-carat ring the burglars took.
The stolen emerald-cut stone — also designed by Schwartz — was a gift from then-husband Kanye West to upgrade her engagement ring mere months before the robbery.
Kardashian’s original proposal ring was also a 15-carat Schwartz ring, and she still has it.
“My first one that I got engaged with Kanye [was] a cushion cut, and that was the only piece of jewelry that I owned that I didn’t take to Paris,” Kardashian said in an episode of The Kardashians. “Kanye saw it and went, ‘Don’t you ever wear both of your rings at the same time. Are you looking to get robbed?’”
Wearing the jewelry to court is reported to be a “power move” and a way for her to regain control.
The men face charges including armed robbery, kidnapping, and membership in a criminal gang, offenses that carry the potential for life imprisonment.
Kardashian stated she was grateful for the opportunity “to tell my truth” in the packed Paris courtroom.
“This is my closure,” she said. “This is me putting this, hopefully, to rest.”
