Matt Healy, the frontman for British indie rock band The 1975, has gone on record to deny that he and Taylor Swift are – or ever were – dating.

Matt Healy, Taylor Swift Never Dated

Healy, 25, admitted back in the fall that he had exchanged numbers with Swift. Before he knew it, his quote about the number exchange spawned dozens of articles suggesting that he and Swift had embarked on a romantic relationship. What does Healy have to say about all the fuss? “It’s fake. It’s all bloody fake. It’s a farce!” he told Australia’s 2DayFM.

“We met each other, we exchanged numbers in the same way that a lot of people in this kind of world do, and we spoke occasionally,” Healy explained. “She’s the biggest pop star in the world and I’m in Australia. There’s no relationship or anything happening. It’s just funny how people really, really buy into that. It really didn’t happen. It would be amazing for me if it did!”

Along with the rumors that Healy was dating Swift came comparison’s to Swift’s most recent famous ex-boyfriend – One Direction’s Harry Styles. In fact, it was reported that the two were actually close friends.”There’s nobody I know less on the planet than Harry Styles. There’s nobody I’ve laid eyes on less in my life than Harry Styles,” said Healy. “But because we were doing things—you have music, or whatever, hair, or whatever—people start talking about us… and then we were in the press. We were best friends, we were hanging out…Those things spiral out of control.”

Swift, who attended a number of The 1975 concerts last year, has been pretty vocal about enjoying the single life since her split from Styles.

“It’s not that [I’ve sworn off dating] as much as I’m just very protective of my happiness,” she told E! News last year. “I found a place in my life that feels really great and I’m not willing to compromise that for just anyone.”
