The 2012 Annual White House Correspondents Dinner, which was held on Saturday night at the Washington Hilton Hotel, was a jolly affair, as the stars came out to mix with media giants and political powerhouses, including the President of the United States, Barack Obama. A-listers in attendance included George Clooney, Steven Spielberg, Charlize Theron, Diane Keaton, Kate Hudson, Sigourney Weaver, Kevin Spacey, Zooey Deschanel, Woody Harrelson, Rosario Dawson, Eva Longoria, Reese Witherspoon, Claire Danes, Goldie Hawn, Kerry Washington, Sophia Vergara, and even Lindsay Lohan.

The evening, called the "nerd prom" was filled with funny speeches and one-liners, as when late night talk show host Jimmy Kimmel spotted pilot Capt. "Sully" Sullenberger — who famously water landed a U.S. Airways craft in the Hudson river in 2009 without any fatalities or major injuries among his passengers — and asked, "Sully, would you do us a favor? Would you mind driving Lindsay Lohan home?" reports Variety.

When Clooney, who arrived as a guest of Time magazine without girlfriend Stacy Keibler, spoke to reporters, he specified that he had recently gotten in touch with former ER costar Noah Wyle, who was arrested in Washington last week for protesting Medicaid cuts. "I saw it, when he got handcuffed," said Clooney, reports the Washington Post. "And I wrote him. I said, 'Do you need bail money?'"

President Obama himself stole the show with his own jokes. "Jimmy got his start on The Man Show," Obama said, referring to Kimmel. "In Washington that's what we call a congressional hearing on contraception." Obama even took the opportunity to poke a little fun at soon-to-be presidential rival Mitt Romney. "It's great to be here this evening in the vast, magnificent Hilton ballroom — or what Mitt Romney would call a little fixer-upper."
