Randy Travis Update: Suffers Stoke, Remains In Critical Condition After Surgery
Randy Travis suffered a stroke on Wednesday, which led to emergency surgery to relieve the pressure on his brain. The country singer was first hospitalized on Sunday due to complications from recently acquired viral cardiomyopathy.
“Mr. Randy Travis is out of surgery and in critical condition,” the hospital website announced Wednesday night.
Travis’ publicist, Kirk Webster, revealed that he suffered the stroke while being treated for congestive heart failure, which was caused by his viral cardiomyopathy. “His family and friends here with him at the hospital request your prayers and support,” Webster added.
Earlier in the day on Wednesday, doctors believed that Travis’ health had improved. Webster had even released a video of Travis’ heart doctors Dr. William Grey and Dr. Michael Mack saying as much. In the video, they reveal that Travis, 54, developed the viral upper respiratory illness three weeks ago, which led to the viral cardiomyopathy. Mack added, “Since his transfer [to The Heart Hospital Baylor Plano from Baylor Medical Center], his condition has stabilized and he has shown signs of improvement.”
Travis’ publicist has said that further updates on the singer’s health will be made public once they’re available.
