Carly Hannah Chaikin is an American actress who is best known for her captivating role of Darlene in the USA network drama/thriller series Mr. Robot, which aired from 2015 to 2019.

CARLY CHAIKIN BIOGRAPHY: AGE, EARLY LIFE, FAMILY, EDUCATION

Chaikin was born on March 26, 1990 (Carly Chaikin age: 33) in Santa Monica, California, to a psychotherapist mother and a cardiologist father. She was brought up Jewish and has one sister.

Chaikin attended the Archer School for Girls and the New Roads School, during which time she played numerous sports, including soccer, volleyball, basketball and softball.

Since she was just 11 years old, Chaikin knew that she wanted to pursue acting as a professional career. While in high school, she decided to forgo college and dedicate herself to acting instead.

In 2009, Chaikin earned herself the role of Veronica in the comedy film The Consultants. That same year, Chaikin appeared in the film adaptation of Nicholas Sparks‘ The Last Song, starring alongside Miley Cyrus, where she portrayed the antagonist of the film, Blaze. In 2011, Chaikin received her breakout role, co-starring as Dalia Royce in the popular ABC sitcom Suburgatory. She proceeded to play the role until the show was canceled in 2014, before ultimately going on to portray the role of Darlene in the American thriller/drama series Mr. Robot just one year later.

In an exclusive interview with uInterview, Chaikin revealed how she got started in acting.

“I’m born and raised in L.A.,” Chaikin stated. “So, my dad’s a doctor, my mom’s a therapist. No one in my family is in the industry. And I always played sports, but I did this stupid little play at sleepaway camp one year where I think I had like one line. And for some reason, I was like this is what I want to do for the rest of my life, but I never did anything about it. I just played sports. I never did one school play, and then when I was 18, I was like, ‘Ok I should probably stop just telling everyone I’m going to be an actress and do something.’ And I knew one person in the business, this woman Lisa Hallerman. She had me meet someone who led me to my coach, Jonathan Slavin. And he was like, ‘You need to meet my manager, and so I met his manager.’ And he was like, ‘Just trust me and work with her.’ That was in January of 2009, and I think it was my fourth movie audition, which was my first callback, it was for a movie called The Last Song with Miley Cyrus that Nicholas Sparks wrote. And then it all kind of just happened from there.”

Moving on to the popular television series Mr. Robot, Chaikin discussed whether or not she created her character Darlene’s signature makeup look.

“It was something that I kind of brought,” Chaikin revealed. “We knew that she would have makeup like that, but that’s kind of how I’ve always done my eyes, in general. And so we just kind of enhanced that and heightened it.”

Additionally, Chaikin went on to speak about her experience working on set with fellow crew member Rami Malek.

“In real life, Rami really is like my brother,” Chaikin admitted. “We have a very brother-sister relationship, and he is such a goofball and so much fun. And, you know, everyone is very lighthearted on the show and we all joke around and laugh. He’s such a talented actor and so working with him is so great.”

When asked whether her opinion on hackers has changed since filming the show, this is what Chaikin had to say:

“Hacking, coding, technology, all of those things were never a thought in my mind necessarily, until I started working on the show. And now all of these things really are in the forefront of my mind. But just knowing what hackers are capable of, knowing what it takes to code, knowing, you know, how deep technology and the knowledge of that can go, and just our relationship to technology as humans today in society.”

Chaikin currently resides in Los Angeles.

In September 2018, Chaikins publicly announced she was engaged to her longtime boyfriend, television director Ryan Bunnell. They got married in November of 2021, but ultimately separated from one another earlier this year when Bunnell filed for divorce.

Chaikin has 11 total tattoos inked onto her body, one of which actually features song lyrics written by famous American singer/songwriter Bob Dylan.

Chaikin is strongly involved with the charitable organization National Alliance on Mental Illness, an organization that conducts research and provides assistance and support for those suffering from mental illness.

Chaikin is also a painter, focusing primarily on oil and acrylics, along with a bit of mixed media collage. Although she took classes growing up, Chaikin claims to be mostly self-taught.
