Shedeur Sanders Reacts To NFL Draft Snub At Lavish Party He Threw For Himself: ‘Fuel To The Fire’
Shedeur Sanders, the 23-year-old quarterback from the Colorado Buffaloes and son of NFL Hall of Famer Deion Sanders, remained optimistic after not being selected in the first, second and third rounds of the 2025 NFL Draft. Hosting a lavish draft party on April 24, Shedeur addressed his guests following the unexpected outcome.
“We all didn’t expect this, of course,” Shedeur said. “But I feel like with God, anything’s possible, everything’s possible. I don’t feel like this happened for no reason.”
He added that the experience serves as motivation: “All this is, of course, fuel to the fire, and under no circumstance we all know this shouldn’t have happened, but we understand we’re on to bigger and better things.”
Sanders had a private workout with the New York Giants, sparking rumors he would land there.
Despite his impressive college career, including throwing for a school-record 4,134 yards and finishing eighth in Heisman Trophy voting, Shedeur’s draft slide has been attributed to concerns over his sack rate, arm strength, personality and adaptability outside his father’s coaching system.
Shedeur’s father, Deion Sanders, expressed his disappointment but remained supportive. After the New Orleans Saints passed on Shedeur, Deion was seen shaking his head and taking a sip of water in a video shared on social media.
The Sanders family has faced additional scrutiny over the University of Colorado’s decision to retire Shedeur’s jersey, a move some critics deemed premature. Deion defended the decision, stating that the criticism stems primarily from their shared surname.
