Zac Efron is set to play serial killer Ted Bundy in a film about his life told from the perspective of his ex girlfriend.

ZAC EFRON TO PLAY TED BUNDY IN DOCUMENTARY

Efron has been starring in comedies, such as BaywatchMike and Dave Need Wedding Dates and Neighbors 1 and 2, for the last few years, and is now switching gears to show off his dramatic acting chops. Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile is a film that tells Bundy’s story through the eyes of Elizabeth Kloepfer, his then-girlfriend who discovered Bundy was a serial killer, and turned him in.

Bundy was executed in Florida for his crimes, after confessing to the sexual assault and murder of more than 30 women.

Efron seems the right choice, as Bundy was very charismatic and seemingly ordinary, though he had a horrible secret. Oscar-nominated director Joe Berlinger is behind the film. He also helmed a documentary about the West Memphis Three, about the murderers of three 8-year-old boys in 1993 who went to prison, but later had their sentences overturned. He’s also made a doc about Metallica called Some Kind of Monster.

Efron will begin work as Bundy after wrapping his role in The Greatest Showman, which stars Hugh Jackman as circus mastermind P.T. Barnum.
