‘Supernatural’ To Have Spinoff On CW
Supernatural, the hit CW series that stars Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki as hunters of the paranormal, has a spinoff in the works.
Bob Singer, Supernatural’s executive producer, announced that a spinoff for the drama series was currently being developed at the 2013 San Diego Comic-Con. The new series will be introduced as a backdoor pilot in episode 20 of the upcoming season of Supernatural. It will be written by Andrew Dabb.
Unlike many spinoffs, Supernatural’s will not follow a character that’s already been deeply ingrained in the show’s universe. Instead, the character will merely be introduced in the backdoor pilot and go on to be the main character in the new CW series – if it’s picked up. One of the ways the spinoff will differ from Supernatural is that it will have more or an urban setting.
In the fall, CW will premiere another spinoff series, The Originals. The Originals centers on three characters – Klaus (Joseph Morgan), Elijah (Daniel Gillies) and Rebekah (Claire Holt) – from the network’s The Vampire Diaries.
Supernatural’s ninth season premiere will air on the CW Oct. 15 at 9/8c.
