Controversial Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Georgia) faced backlash on social media for listing the wrong names of people who signed the Declaration of Independence.

Greene made this mistake in an X post. “The average age of the signers of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776, was 44 years old, but more than a dozen were 35 or younger: Thomas Jefferson: 33 John Hancock: 39 James Madison: 25 Alexander Hamilton: 21 James Monroe: 18 Aaron Burr: 20 Paul Revere: 41 George Washington: 44,” she wrote.

X tagged the post with a correction which states that it was “in error with respect to Monroe, Madison, Washington, Burr, and Hamilton being signers.”

Many X users slammed the Georgia representative for making this error.

“You got a majority of names wrong,” the user stated in response to Greene’s post. “How are you in Congress!!??? We need a civics test to run for government.”

“How have you not taken this down,” another user asked. “This is utterly embarrassing. You’ve listed people who did not sign the Declaration of Independence. I feel so bad for the district you represent.”

One user declared, “I’m going to steal the Declaration of Independence just so I can personally show you who signed it.”

Another user noted, “Hamilton didn’t sign the Declaration of Independence. If you don’t know our country’s history, at least take the 30 seconds it would take to use Google.”

Greene has been in the headlines frequently in recent months.

During a committee hearing on the first week of April, Greene was reprimanded by Chairman Brad Wenstrup (R-Ohio) for refusing to call Dr. Anthony Fauci by his title.

In early July, Greene ended her press conference outside of former White House aide Steve Bannon’s prison in Danbury, Connecticut, due to constant disturbances from protesters. She spoke outside the prison hours before he was scheduled to serve his four-month sentence after being convicted of contempt of Congress.

During the press conference, she kept being interrupted by protesters who shouted obscenities.

A sign behind her read “Bleach blonde bad built butch body,” an insult that Greene received from Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-Texas) on May 16 during a House Oversight meeting.

As the congresswoman gave concluding notes, she pointed out the cowbell interrupting her. The press conference ended after she made this remark.
