Meghan Markle has been criticized for her “over-the-top” arrival at a Broadway show on Thursday night.

As reported by Page Six, Markle was seen being driven to the show Gypsy with three SUVs and an unmarked police car in attendance. While Markle rode in one of the SUVs, the other two were reportedly empty apart from the drivers.

In recent months, Markle has received non-stop criticism, from her Netflix show Polo with her husband, Prince Harry, to her promotional strategies to her lifestyle series Love, Meghan. Most critics have condemned Markle’s “artificially sweet” persona and ripped her for making oblivious assumptions about the average person’s financial savings.

On Thursday, a paparazzi source criticized Markle’s safety measures, calling them “absolutely abnormal, totally over-the-top and excessive.”

The source noted that while Taylor Swift regularly has two cars when going to events, one for her and one for her security team, her security team typically arrives at destinations before her and does not call for as much attention. Celebrities such as Beyoncé and Kim Kardashian usually travel in a single car and do not call for police escorts.

“Meghan is out of control and over-the-top, and it’s ridiculous if the city is paying for this,” the source continued. “And if the NYPD was not on duty, then they shouldn’t be allowed to run lights. Somebody’s got to be paying for it.”

Gypsy, which has been running since November 2024, follows the protagonist Momma Rose as she tried to turn her two daughters into Vaudeville stars.

After the show, Markle shared photos on Instagram of her meeting members of the cast. She captioned the post, “If you get a chance to see @gypsybway, you absolutely must. Congratulations to the tremendously talented cast and crew for creating magic on that stage.”

She added, “And meeting @audramcdonald for the first time last night…her performance will leave you absolutely speechless. Full body chills. I don’t think there was a dry eye in the house, and if the theater didn’t have to close for the night, the standing ovation would still be happening.”
