Prince Harry‘s recent visit to meet with wounded Ukrainian soldiers has frustrated his estranged brother, Prince William.

Harry, 40, traveled to Ukraine last week to meet with wounded soldiers. The sudden trip left William, 42, “fuming” at Royal Family officials after he was denied a similar trip in the past. The rejection is in part due to safety fears following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. Williams reportedly voiced his frustration to palace staff but was left irritated when he found out Harry had announced his trip as part of his ongoing work with wounded veterans through his Invictus Games charity.

The royal brothers have been increasingly estranged since Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle, left royal life in 2020 to pursue other interests. Harry’s bombshell memoir, Spare, which hit shelves in January 2023 and described life among the royal family in the palace, provided the final blow.

Williams visited Estonia last month, donning combat fatigues and riding in a tank as he joined British troops on a field exercise. The prince braved freezing temperatures to meet with 900 soldiers and servicemen near the border, including soldiers of the Mercian regiment, of which he is colonel-in-chief.

Harry, for his part, visited the Superhumans Center in Lviv, an orthopedic center treating wounded military personnel and civilians, to observe the services provided to the country during the war. The center provides prosthetics, reconstructive surgery and psychological help free of charge.

Prince previously served 10 years in the British Army and has made assisting injured soldiers one of his top priorities. His surprise visit to Ukraine was after he spent two days at a London court appealing to win back a taxpayer-funded security detail, which his family was stripped of in 2020.
