Late British pop star George Michael was finally laid to rest at a private funeral at Highgate Cemetery in London.

GEORGE MICHAEL LAID TO REST YESTERDAY

“We can confirm that the funeral of the singer George Michael took place today,” read a short statement from Michael’s family after the fact. “Family and close friends gathered for the small, private ceremony to say goodbye to their beloved Son, Brother and Friend. George Michael’s family would like to thank his fans across the world for their many messages of love and support. We ask that the family’s wish for privacy be respected so that they can continue to live their lives privately, away from any media intrusion. No further details will be released.”

Michael died at age 53 in his home on Christmas morning, 2016. The coroner declared natural causes to be the cause of death, from heart disease and fatty liver. Things between Michael’s boyfriend Fadi Fawaz and his family have been tense, with the family never liking Fawaz. Many blamed him for the singer’s premature death.

Rumors had been spreading that Fawaz would not be invited to Michael’s wedding, but he has repeatedly tried to shut this down. “You full of s–t, full of lies and full of hate,” he ranted on twitter at The Sun. “It would be just smart to get the simple facts correct about me in order to have a chance to believe what you saying is correct.”

Fawaz has been feuding with the publication since they published that Michael’s cousin Andros Georgiou didn’t trust Fawaz. “I hope the money you make out of telling lies you spend on your health Amen,” he wrote.

The Sun is reporting that the family barred Fawaz from attending the wake, while former ex Kenny Goss was allowed to go, but Fawaz has vehemently denied the claims.

Also in attendance was former Wham! bandmate Andrew Ridgley, who recently paid tribute to the late singer at the 2017 Brit Awards.
