Former President Donald Trump received backlash on social media for insulting former Gov. Chris Christie’s (R-New Jersey) weight during a rally at Doral golf club in South Florida.

During the rally on Tuesday, Trump began to recall an encounter he had with a waitress.

“A waitress came over – beautiful waitress,” he mentioned. “And I never like talking about physical – she’s beautiful inside – because you never talk about a person’s look. Ever. You never mention it.”

“The other day, I got very angry,” he added. “Some man called Chris Christie fat, and I said, ‘Sir!’ And then he said he was a ‘pig.’ I said, ‘Sir! Chris Christie is not a fat pig. Please remember he is not a fat pig. Please take it back!'”

“And the guy’s lookin’ at me like, ‘really,'” the former president then recounted.

“Now we have to defend people,” he declared. “You can’t call people fat.”

Trump stated that he told the man “nine times” that Christie”‘ is not a fat pig.'”

X users soon negatively responded to the former president’s remarks.

The Republicans Against Trump account wrote in a post that he is “deranged” and “utterly unfit for office.”

On July 9, another user claimed that Trump “is the ‘man’ he’s referring to” in his story.

“He’s reminding everyone about Chris Christie’s weight and mocking him but wants people to believe he’s defending him,” one user stated in a post. “That’s what he does with everything.”

During an appearance on Fox News on June 25, 2023, Christie labeled Trump as a “bully on the schoolyard” after the former president made remarks about his weight.

He also said that Trump “should take a look in the mirror every once in a while – maybe he’d drop the weight thing off his list of criticisms.”

During a Jersey Shore rally on May 11, Trump also mocked Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg.
