Prior to visiting the Late Show, Chance the Rapper had teased that he and the host had been working on a song together, leading some to believe that Stephen Colbert might actually be rapping on the track.
“Me and Stephen Colbert have been working on a song together, and it’s gonna released very soon. He’s amazing,” Chance the Rapper told Hot 97. “I can’t get that deep into it, but he’s amazing.”
When Chance the Rapper took to the stage Monday night, Colbert was with him – but not in the capacity that was expected. Instead of getting behind a mic, Colbert, halo on his head, kept his seat at the desk to watch the performance.
Chance the Rapper was joined in his performance of “Angels” by the Social Experiment and Saba, an exploratory rapper, who, like Chance the Rapper, hails from Chicago. Saba also appeared on Chance the Rapper’s “Everybody’s Something.”
Chance the Rapper dropped “Angels” on iTunes Monday, and has made it available for free.
