Nebraska GOP Sen. Deb Fischer’s Husband, Bruce Fischer, Slammed Refusing To Shake Kamala Harris’ Hand During Swearing-In Ceremony
Bruce Fischer, the husband of Sen. Deb Fischer (R-Nebraska), has been criticized on social media for refusing to shake Vice President Kamala Harris‘ hand during his wife’s swearing-in ceremony.
During the ceremony, Harris administered the oath to Deb as the Nebraska senator’s hand was rested on the Bible. She then shook her hand, congratulated her, and thanked her for her work.
The vice president, who was beaten by Donald Trump in the 2024 presidential election, then extended a handshake to Bruce while congratulating him. He told her “thank you” and refused to give her his hand back, causing her to awkwardly turn toward the camera and smile with Deb and her husband for a photograph.
Even though other angles of this moment show Bruce’s right hand, often used for handshakes, being used to grip his cane, users on X criticized the senator’s husband for refusing to shake Harris’ hand.
“It’s disgraceful that Bruce Fischer, husband to incoming GOP Senator Deb Fischer, cannot muster a few seconds of class to shake the hands of @VP Kamala Harris,” author Don Winslow wrote. “The only thing Bruce showed here was that pigs don’t only live on farms. He is a pig.”
“A new low for MAGA: During the swearing-in ceremony of Nebraska Senator Deb Fischer, her racist, piece of —- hubby Bruce Fischer refused to shake hands with Vice President Kamala Harris,” singer-songwriter Bill Madden stated.
