On Wednesday, Kanye West bailed on an important hearing in one of his Donda Academy lawsuits.

This is the first default against West’s companies in the slew of litigation over his failed Christian private school, Donda Academy.

Judge Christopher K. Lui declared that Yeezy Christian Academy, Donda Services LLC, and Stokes Canyon LLC failed to respond in court during a hearing in Los Angeles. The hearing was tied to the breach of contract lawsuit filed last year by former school staffer Isaiah Meadows.

Meadows shared that he was hired in 2020 to help run West’s Yeezy Christian Academy, and stayed with the school through its transition to Donda Academy in 2021. However, Meadows reported that upon the shift, his compensation was slashed, the rent stipend he was promised was revoked, and he was fired in August 2022 when he complained about the unsafe working conditions at the school, such as the exposed electrical wiring and the overflowing septic system.

Meadows’ lawsuit was filed shortly after three other teachers called West out for Donda Academy’s inappropriate setting and non-existent education standards. After Meadows’ lawsuit, three more staffers came forward.

Last month, West was namd in a fifth lawsuit related to Donda Academy when a former Yeezy employee, Murphy Aficionado, sued West with claims that he was fired after West unsuccessfully tried to pressure him into moving the K-12 Christian school to a decrepit property without proper permits. Aficionado further accused West of frequent hate-speech tirades and relayed how West had once forced Aficionado to watch him and his wife have relations in a hotel room.

West faces a wide array of lawsuits from Yeezy staffers to former assistants, who report having been subject to offensive rants and inappropriate, nonconsensual treatment under West’s employment. Multiple women have accused West of assault or harassment.
